Product Description

LIHA Aerosols Plastic Primer is a specially formulated automotive adhesion primer designed to improve paint bonding on plastic components before applying automotive color coats.

Many automotive plastics have low surface energy, which can cause conventional primers and paints to peel, flake, or lose adhesion. LIHA Plastic Primer creates a suitable bonding layer between the prepared plastic surface and subsequent automotive paint system, helping produce a stronger and more durable finish.

Ideal for bumpers, mirror covers, trims, grilles, spoilers, plastic panels, motorcycle parts, and other paintable automotive plastic components.

Recommended Painting System

For plastic automotive components, use the following sequence:

Plastic Surface → Plastic Primer → Automotive Base Coat / Color → Clear Coat

If the plastic component requires filling or surfacing work, additional compatible primer/surfacer products may be required before the color coat.

Directions for Use

1. Surface Preparation

Clean the plastic thoroughly to remove:

  • Dirt
  • Grease
  • Oil
  • Wax
  • Silicone
  • Polish
  • Release agents

For previously painted components, remove loose or damaged paint and properly feather the repair area.

2. Sanding

Lightly scuff the surface using an appropriate fine abrasive or scuff pad. Avoid excessively aggressive sanding that can damage or deeply scratch the plastic.

Clean the surface again and allow it to dry completely.

3. Primer Application

  1. Shake the aerosol can vigorously for 2–3 minutes.
  2. Test spray before application.
  3. Hold the can approximately 20–25 cm from the surface.
  4. Apply 1–2 light, uniform coats.
  5. Avoid applying excessively heavy coats.
  6. Allow the primer to flash/dry before applying the next compatible coating.

4. Apply Color Coat

After the Plastic Primer has properly flashed, apply the required LIHA Automotive OEM Color Match Paint in multiple thin coats.

5. Apply Clear Coat

For basecoat automotive colors, finish with LIHA Automotive Clear Coat to develop the required gloss and provide additional UV, weather, chemical, and scratch protection.

Important Note

Plastic Primer is an adhesion-promoting product and should not be treated as a high-build filling primer. Deep scratches, pinholes, uneven surfaces, and body-repair defects should be corrected using appropriate repair materials and primer surfacer before applying the final color.

Different plastics can require different preparation methods. Always perform an adhesion test on a small area before completing the job.
